The Community Hall

We stopped by the Hornby Island Community Hall today. This building, like most of the public buildings, was built by the community using only volunteers. As the community expanded, more and more sections were added onto the hall. It contains a big room, kind of like a gym where they show movies, have art shows, public meetings, and dances.

The front door where I'm sitting is cut out of an ancient cedar root that washed up on shore when they were building the hall. Some people say that this building is the heart of the community because of how involved it is with most events around here.
